Subtle though easily perceptible oak nuances frame quite spicy aromas of both red and dark pinot fruit, exotic tea and violet. The equally suave and sappy medium-bodied flavors exude a refreshing touch of salinity on the noticeably warm, dusty and firm finale. This is actually quite good in its fashion if not exactly typical. - BH89
Domaine Forey Père et Fils is a Burgundian wine producer based in Vosne-Romanée in the Côte de Nuits region. The domaine devotes the almost the entirety of its wine portfolio to red wines made from Pinot Noir, producing two grand crus from Vougeot and Flagey-Echezeaux, along with five premier crus.
The Forey family has an established presence in Vosne-Romanée and oversaw the viticulture and vinification of the La Romanée Grand Cru vineyard, the smallest of appellation in France, until 2001. Today, the estate is managed by Régis Forey who, since the 1980s, has extended its total vineyard holdings to 9 hectares (22 acres), with the purchase of an additional Echezeaux Grand Cru vineyard parcel and Les Gaudichots Premier Cru vineyard plots. Biodiversity is promoted throughout these vineyards, with the use of manmade chemicals kept to a minimum.
The entire grape harvest is destemmed and, following fermentation, aged in oak barrels. Domaine Forey Père et Fils ages its grand and premier cru wines in 80-100 percent new oak barrels, while its village level offerings see 10-30 percent new oak. Racking only takes place once the wines are ready to be bottled without fining or filtration.
The Domaine Forey Père et Fils wine range also features three village-level wines, as well as four Bourgogne wines. - Information from Wine Searcher.
