This is a terrific and flexible expression of Nebbiolo that can adopt to almost any dinner party setting. The 2014 Barolo Castiglione was designed for people who want to enjoy Barolo in an easy and direct manner. This Barolo is offered at higher production numbers, although this vintage is comparatively smaller. On average they make anywhere from 44,000 to 53,000 bottles, but in 2014 only 35,000 bottles were produced. The bouquet here is generous and broad with dark fruit, spice and tar. You even get a touch of citrus or dried orange peel. The mouthfeel is a bit thinner and more delicate in this vintage. Yet the tannins leave a firm footprint and promise a good aging future ahead. - WA93
This is sleek and tightly wound, displaying cherry, currant, leafy tobacco and iron flavors. A firm grip locks down the finish, with a lingering element of sweet fruit. Best from 2022 through 2033. - WS91
The nose is rather shy but eventually reveals whiffs of dark-skinned fruit, underbrush, coconut, and a hint of camphor. It's medium bodied but firm, offering mature black cherry, licorice and a hint of espresso set against grainy tannins that grip the somewhat dusty, drying finish. Drink after 2023. - WE90
The history of the Vietti winery traces its roots back to the 19th Century. Only at the beginning of the 20th century, however, did the Vietti name become a winery offering its own wines in bottle.
Since 1974 certain Vietti wines have been dressed with specially-designed original works (lithographs, xylographies, etchings, silkscreens, linocuts) inspired by the wine of that particular vintage.
Vietti wines come from Castiglione Falletto wineyards, in the hearth of the Barolo zone. The qualities of sandy-calcareous soil in this area gives a unique tannic heritage with very elegant olfactory sensations.
