The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin les Seuvrées comes from 60- to 70-year-old vines and included 30% whole-bunch fruit. This has a more refined and precise bouquet than the la Justice thanks to the effortlessly pure red fruit intertwined with cold stone/limestone aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a killer line of acidity and a brightness on the finish that is a pure joy. This is a superb village cru, one of the best that I encountered this vintage. - WA91~93
Very firm reduction though it's not perceptible on the palate of the impressively intense and overtly powerful medium-bodied flavors that possess more size and weight compared to those of the La Justice. The lingering finish though is noticeably less refined; indeed it's markedly rustic. In sum, this is built for mid-term cellaring and is very Gevrey in basic character.- BH88~91
Hubert Lignier is a family-owned domaine in Burgundy, producing both red and wines. The estate is located in Morey-Saint-Denis in the Côte de Nuits and is best known for its Pinot Noir wines from the grand cru vineyard Clos de la Roche. It is owned and run by the father-son duo Hubert and Laurent Lignier.
The estate is made up of around 9 hectares (22 acres) of vineyard land that ranges from the basic Bourgogne appellation to grand cru. Vineyard holdings are primarily located in the villages of Morey-Saint-Denis, Gevrey-Chambertin, and Chambolle-Musigny, with newer vineyards acquired in Nuits-Saint-Georges and Pommard.
Pinot Noir is the primary grape variety produced by the domaine, but Chardonnay, Gamay, and Aligoté are also included in the portfolio. Hubert Lignier practices traditional methods in the vineyard to showcase the terroir of each appellation, but practices interventionalist methods for vinification. Wines are left to age for 20-22 months in barrel, and are left unracked and on the lees after malolactic fermentation. Hubert Lignier wines are bottled without fining. - Information from Wine Searcher
