Description

In the first flush of youth their color is a bright ruby, turning to deep carmine or dark cherry with age. Strawberry, mulberry, violet, mignonette, and rose all help to make up their bouquet of spontaneous aromas. More maturity brings out liquorices, leather and fur, with gamey notes and hints of underbrush. On the palate, they impress by their firm structure, velvety tannins and delicate texture. These wines are everything a great Burgundy should be: fullbodied, powerful, rich, and meaty. They have both body and spirit. Pleasant when drunk young “on the fruit”, they are nevertheless first and foremost wines for aging, often for long periods. As such, they make an excellent basis for comparing different vintages. - Information from Bourgogne Wine Board

The Winery

Maison Lou Dumont is a relatively new negociant house set up originally in Nuits Saint Georges before moving Gevrey-Chambertin in 2000 by Koji Nakada and his Korean wife Jae Hwa Park. Koji has been a sommelier in before pursuing his dream in Beaune learning and working with Cote d'Or domains.

Wine Making Style

Using only natural yeasts, fermentations occur naturally, with minimal remontage (pumping over) if any, any very little punch downs. The fermentation takes place in steel tanks, but there still remain a few wooden tanks for experimental purposes. The wines then spend 12 to 24 months depending on the cuvee in oak, of which 15% is new for regional wines, 30% for village wines, 50% for Premier Crus and 70% for the Grand Crus.
