A fresh and pretty array is comprised mostly by various red berries where soft notes of spice and earth add a touch of nuance. The sleek and nicely intense lighter weight flavors exude a hint of refreshing salinity on the mildly austere, focused and delicious finale. A competent effort that offers good delineation.– BH86~88
Georges Noëllat is a Burgundian domaine based in Vosne-Romanée, known for its elegant Pinot Noir wines. The estate was taken over from George’s wife (and his grandmother) by 20 year old Maxime Scheurlin, who debuted with the excellent 2010 vintage. Until then much of the vintage was sold in bulk to Louis Jadot and Joseph Drouhin.
There are just 5.5 hectares (13.6 acres) of vines, but they are sited in some of the best vineyards in Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges. The holdings include parcels in the Echezaux and Grands Echezaux Grand Cru.
Grapes are harvested by hand, usually de-stemmed and cool-macerated before fermentation with native yeasts. Punchdowns are rare and gentle. Between 30 and 100 percent new oak is used, depending on the appellation and vintage. Aging lasts 14 to 20 months, and wines are usually bottled generally without fining or filtration. – Information from Wine Searcher
