The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Volcanic Hill is blended of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it charges out of the gate with exuberant black cherry cordial, plum preserves and blueberry pie notions with touches of dark chocolate, cinnamon stick, cloves, camphor and candied violets. Full-bodied, the palate is decadently fruited with black and blue berry layers, framed by firm yet plush tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with wonderfully long-lasting, opulent baking spice nuances.- WA99
Offers a dense core of ripe and fleshy fruit, with plum, cassis and blackberry notes in the mix, held in check for now by racy, charcoal-edged tannins that run throughout. The finish is very long, rippling with sanguine and smoldering cast iron details that give this serious mouthwatering cut. - WS96
This is an intensely powerful Cabernet Sauvignon, with 8% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc blended in. It is robust in firm tannins that prop up flavors of leather, dark chocolate, sage and crushed rock, accented by toasted oak and cedar. It will benefit from aging; enjoy 2026–2031. - WE96
Blackberries and blueberries with pine nuts and ink. Wet earth and fresh mushrooms. Full body with a vortex of fruit that just squeezes through at the finish. Ripe and polished tannins. Extremely long. Needs four to five years of bottle age.- JS97
Founded in 1968, Diamond Creek is California's first exclusively Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Vineyard. Visionary pioneer Al Brounstein defied modern conventions and planted Bordeaux varietals on secluded Diamond Mountain. The three vineyards produce a small amount of long-lived wines that are elegant with great depth and richness, honored and cherished by connoisseurs the world over. Taste the differences imparted to the wine by the distinct soils and micro-climates of Diamond Creek Vineyards.
Our second coolest micro-climate is our five-acre Gravelly Meadow vineyard. Originally a pre-historic river bed, this stony, gravelly soil drains rapidly and the vines struggle for moisture.
