Description

Aims high, with a strong lashing of oak setting the pace for the plum, black cherry and kirsch flavors. Medicinal herb and mineral notes complete this complex, powerful red. Woody tannins reign on the tight finish. Better with air, so decant now or cellar short-term. Best from 2017 through 2024. - WS90

The 2010 Lamaione is a delightful expression of Merlot that shows soft tones of cherry and dark spice that are woven within the tight texture of the wine. The appearance is dark and impenetrable and the quality of the bouquet is bright and true to varietal character. Lamaione delivers soft, silky tannins that have been expertly enhanced by oak spice flavors. - WA93

Lamaione 2010 is a black-red with deep red highlights. On the nose, sweet berry fruits such as cherry and ripe blueberry, followed by chocolate, coffee, mint and licorice. Hints of almond, both fresh and toasted, are complemented by subtle flavours of tobacco. The palate is decisive, with dense and intense tannins. In spite of the bold body, Lamaione closes with a fresh finish and hints of mint. - Winemaker's Notes

The Winery

The Marchesi de' Frescobaldi is one of Italy's oldest wineries, with a history dating to the 1300s. The family has included medieval knights, bankers, lawyers and patrons of the arts. The Marchesi de' Frescobaldi is one of the most significant wine producers in Italy, with nine estates—and roughly 2,500 acres—in Tuscany. The family has been growing wine since the late 19th century, when they became the first in Tuscany to import and plant French vine cuttings. Because they have been producing wines for more than 700 years, to experience Frescobaldi is to glimpse the history of Florence, from the Middle Ages to the present day.

Wine Spectator has ranked many of their offerings in the 90s and their wines are consistently listed in the magazine's Top 100 Wines of the Year, encouraging wine enthusiasts from around the globe to become familiar with some of Italy's finest wines.
