Description

An intensely earthy but very fresh nose of red berry fruit and underbrush notes leads to supple yet detailed and vibrant flavors that display only mild rusticity on the delicious and easy to like finish. - BH85-87

This light and supple red wine is moderately tannic but rich and characterful. Quite vividly coloured, it is often dark crimson with purplish highlights. The nose is dominated by small red fruits (raspberry, Morello cherry) and black fruits (blackberry) set off by notes of liquorice and underbrush. With age it evolves towards strawberry preserves and gingerbread with animal and leather notes. It is well-built with noticeably elegant tannins. Its well-rounded structure leaves an aftertaste of fruit on the palate. - WA85-86

The Winery

The House of Lécheneaut is implanted in Nuits-Saint-Georges where it holds a prestigious position in the heart of the Burgundy terroir. It flourishes on ten hectares of vineyards scattered among eighteen glorious appellations from Côte de Nuits, which bestows its rich intensity and uniqueness.

Fifty to sixty thousand bottles of renowned nectar are released each year from its winery, sent off to conquer the international markets.

HISTORY OF THE DOMAIN

During the late 1950’s, Moreysien de souche Fernand Lécheneaut founded the house with the same name in Nuits-Saint-Georges. The domain contained two and a half hectares of vineyards, divided among the communes of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Chambolle-Musigny, and Morey-Saint-Denis.

In 1986, after having followed an oenological training at the Viticole highschool in Beaune, the sons of Fernand, Philippe and Vincent, rooted in their burgundy terroir since their childhood, naturally followed suit with the firm intention of prospering the family’s domain.

From this date on, the Lécheneaut Domain will continue to grow and develop. Additional vineyards were obtained in Nuits-Saint-Georges and in Vosne-Romanée in 1987. New parcels, including some Premiers Crus, were acquired a little later in Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin. Then the illustrious Premier Crus of Nuits-Saint-Georges “Les Pruliers” and “le Clos des Ormes” in Morey-Saint-Denis made a remarkable addition to the Domain.
