The colour of Château Pichon Baron 2011 is deep garnet with ruby glints. On the nose, there is great aromatic presence with spicy, delicate, chocolatey and lightly toasted notes. There are delicate aromas of fruit: blackberry, black cherry. The attack is fleshy, generous and full-bodied. The rich, silky tannins are beautifully mature. The mouth-watering finish becomes more refined and sweet. This vintage opens up to become more accessible. - Winemaker's Note
Big tannins, smoky wood notes and prominent fruit mark this wine, along with acidity and freshness. It’s powerful, with the most gentle structure of concentrated dusty tannins and intensely-fresh blackberry-juice flavors.-WE95
A Pichon Baron with currants and cocoa powder. It’s a little lean but shows lovely full body, bright fruit and polished tannins. Lovely race and finesse. Better in 2018.- JS92
Shows a taut feel for now, with lots of cassis and blackberry fruit, lined with iron and bramble notes. Dark and well-toasted yet integrated overall, this should stretch out after moderate cellaring, as there's an ample core of dark, fleshy fruit. Best from 2016 through 2028. 15,000 cases made.- WS92
Its bigger, more famous sibling, the 2011 Pichon Longueville Baron exhibits a dense ruby/purple color, an opulent mouthfeel for a 2011, silky tannins and no hard edges. Medium-bodied and well-endowed, it is a major success in this vintage. It should hit its stride in 3-4 years and last for 15+.- WA91
Pichon-Longueville is located on beautifully gravelly soil in the southern part of the commune of Pauillac. In 1694, Jacques de Pichon, Baron de Longueville, married the daughter of Pierre de Rauzan, who originally created the property. Their descendants remained deeply involved with making fine wine, and Raoul de Pichon-Longueville built the present chateau in 1851.
In 1988, following an architectural competition organized by the Centre Georges Pompidou, the château and wine cellar were entirely renovated. A spectacular new winemaking facility enables an exquisite wine to be made under ideal conditions.
