Description
The Winery

Château Meyney is an estate in Saint-Estèphe best known for its wine of the same name. Formed as an ecclesiastical vineyard in 1662, it is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc, although its modern history began in 1917 when it was acquired by the Cordier family.

The vineyard is contained in a single 51-hectare (126-acre) site, which is unusual for a estate of this size. It is planted with around 60 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 percent Merlot and ten percent Petit Verdot, and the typical Meyney blend reflects these proportions. Depending on the vintage, the wine is aged for 16 to 24 months in French barriques, with 30 to 60 percent new oak. A second wine, Prieur de Meyney, is made from the younger vines on the estate.

The estate was bought in 2004 by Crédit Agricole Grands Crus, whose other properties including Grand-Puy Ducasse in Pauillac and Château de Rayne Vigneau in Sauternes. Many critics feel the best wines produced at Meyney date from this recent period.
