There is latent power in this red, but also finesse and an underlying reserve. A deep well of black cherry, black currant, violet, graphite and toasty oak flavors permeate its texture. The acidity and tannins are in sync, while the long aftertaste evokes black cherry, spice and mineral elements. Best from 2024 through 2043. - WS96
The 2018 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru has turned out beautifully, unwinding in the glass with a youthfully reserved nose of raspberries and plums, complemented by nuances of rose petals, spices and orange rind. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and multidimensional, with lively acids and beautifully refined tannins. This exhibits terrific potential for sustained bottle age. Drink: 2028~2060 - WA94
To the Eye : A pure bright deep red, truly stunning. Clear and limpid, the shifting colour nuances often vary, though generally tending towards fairly dark shades of garnet or violet-purple: a colour that holds the eye.
To the Nose : With age, the palette tends towards pepper and musk, animal pelts, leather and spices, prunes. Sometimes the bouquet hints at scents of woodland undergrowth, moss, mushrooms, damp earth, game, fruit preserved in alcohol and mulberries round off this range of aromas. Especially in young wines, one may well encounter scents of pine, dog roses, violets and fresh cherries.
In the Mouth : Peaceful and dreamy, serene with age, subtle and refined, this wine fully reveals the complex nature of a really good Burgundy, all the art that can be achieved through the medium of pinot noir grapes grown on one particular terroir. The structure is outstanding: solid, full-bodied, rich and exceptionally harmonious. It is wholly appropriate for the qualification Great to precede Echezeaux in the name Grands-Echezeaux: it has that extra touch of class, of vinosity, and a dense and subtle texture.- Winemaker's Notes
The village of Vosne Romanee entered in the Burgundy history in 636. It was at the beginning of the XVII century that is first noted the name "Mongeard" in the registry. For more than eight generations, the Mongeard family has been established in Vosne Romanee, right in the midst of the Cote de Nuits, producing wine with an utmost respect for tradition.
Since then and through all the generations, the family is committed to their passion: Vine and Wine. The Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret, renamed since 1945, now operates a large vineyard in the purist of the burgundy tradition, My grand-father was Eugene Mongeard and my grand-mother Edmee Mugneret.
