A deft touch of oak sets off the earthy dark berry fruit aromas that display good lift and density. There is very good volume to the delicious and intense medium weight plus flavors that also possess relatively fine-grained tannins that add a relatively refined texture to the brooding and mildly austere yet hugely persistent finish. While the nose is not as fresh as the best in the range I suspect that in this case the aromas won't turn prematurely secondary in character. Drink: 2027+ - BH93
The 2012 Vougeot 1er Cru Les Petits Vougeots comes from the family’s 0.53-hectare parcel that was planted in 1970. It has a strong undergrowth/earthy bouquet, well defined but broody at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of candied sweet fruit on the entry, which comes as a surprise after the slightly austere nose. It builds nicely in the mouth – never complex but precise and long. Very fine. - WA90
Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat is a Burgundy producer of high-quality Pinot Noir from prestigious sites in the Côte de Nuits. The domaine was founded in Vougeot by Alain Hudelot in 1962, although the Hudelot family can trace its history in Burgundy back to before the French Revolution. Hudelot married Odile Noëllat in the 1970s, which increased the domaine's holdings; the Noëllat family had its own significant history in Burgundy. In 2008 Alain retired and his grandson, Charles van Canneyt, took over running the estate.
The domaine has roughly 10 hectares (24 acres) of vineyards with plots in four villages and in 15 different designated sites. The highest tier of Pinot Noir comes from the grand cru vineyards Richbourg, Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Clos de Vougeot. Hudelot-Noëllatt has a reputation for high vine ages, which it maintains through methodical replanting. The average age is more than 50 years, with several vineyard plantings dating back to 1920, including parcels in Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The domaine makes a Bourgogne Aligoté along with its numerous premier cru and villages-level Pinot Noir.- Information by Wine Searcher
