Very tight and focused with orange peel, chocolate and hints of bright fruit. Medium body, firm and silky finish. Structured and beautiful. - JS94
I am a huge fan of this vineyard site in the Roero region. The 2016 Nebbiolo d'Alba Vigna Valmaggiore serves to encourage and confirm my enthusiasm. The Valmaggiore vineyard is home to dangerously steep rows that make farming extremely laborious. The effort is worth it, especially when you consider those delicate and nuanced berry aromas that so beautifully permeate the bouquet. Wild strawberry, cassis and blueberry are followed by pressed violet and bitter almond. Nor is the mouthfeel to be underestimated, as it provides ample structure and extra crunch on the tonic finish. This wine was bottled just three weeks prior to my tasting and is developing handsomely. Drink: 2019~2028 - WA93
Enticing, featuring delicate floral, cherry, strawberry and mineral flavors, allied to an elegant frame. Firm tannins hold court on the long finish, but this is balanced overall. Drink now through 2024. - WS90
Bruno Giacosa's winery has been making wine for three generations, and Bruno Giacosa himself says that his success is due to his respect for traditional winemaking methods which he believes enhance the characteristics of Piedmont's varietals. His property covers 37 acres of totally cultivated vines. The altitude of the estate, its ideal exposure (south, south-west), and the microclimate combine to create optimal winegrowing conditions.
Bruno Giacosa makes wine not only with grapes from his property but also with grapes purchased from growers he has known for 30 years and trusts completely. He, in fact, made his reputation as a outstanding selector of fruit. The winemaking methods employed by this estate are scrupulous and traditional without ignoring the benefits of modern technique.
