An overtly toasty nose features plenty of earth and mineral notes to the mostly red and agreeably fresh red pinot fruit aromas. The stone character continues onto the seductive textured medium-bodied flavors that possess very good mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a powerful and lingering finish where the toast element telegraphed by the nose reappears. This may completely eat its wood in time but it's worth underscoring that I suspect that there is likely to always be some visible oak character which may or may not appeal to you. Drink: 2019+ - BH89~91
Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Pommard 1er Cru les Pezerolles from AF Gros has a rather stemmy bouquet, nicely defined if missing just a touch of energy because of the challenges of the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with surprisingly fine tannin. There is a dab of oak to be resolved, but the palate is far more stylish and appealing than the aromatics, and it lingers nicely in the mouth. It improves and gains more and more purity as it aerates. - WA90
The domaine was established in 1988 when the parents of Anne-Françoise, Jean and Jeanine Gros of Vosne-Romanée decided to let go of a few parcels of the family domaine (The domaine was initially known under the names of Gros-Renaudot, then Louis Gros, and after inheritance, Jean Gros).
At the same time Anne-Françoise aquired a domaine in Flagey-Échezeaux, and later with her husband, François Parent, purchased a vineyard in Savigny-les-Beaune.
Shortly thereafter, François added to the domaine his own vineyards in Pommard that he inherited from his family. Being the 13th generation of winemakers, he continues to aquire knowledge and techniques that enable him to vinify his wines so that they express the typicity and complexity of the aromas of the Pinot Noir.
Together they decided to unite the two domaines and install in Beaune the caves, cuverie and buildings.
