Description

The 2009 Gazin is deep garnet colored and gives up broody tar and truffles notes over a core of baked plums, blackberry compote and charred meat plus a waft of leather. Full-bodied, firm and chewy, it has a good core of concentrated, savory flavors and an earthy finish. - WA93

This has it all in place—dark, smoldering tobacco and cocoa notes, rich plum sauce, braised fig and steeped black currant fruit, joined by lengthy, mouthcoating, tar-tinged grip. Still youthfully raw, though, so cellar for maximum effect. Best from 2014 through 2028. - WS93

A smoky wine, its fruit submerged in the wood character. It does have weight, along with powerful, tight tannins. It's a wine that will need many years. - WE92

This is a powerful, well-structured vintage with a dark, intense bordeaux colour.  There are notes of toast, black fruit, cherries, liquorice and spices.  The tannins are supple and soft, but with a definite presence.  The wine is rich, sumptuous, with a lot of substance and a long finish.  It should be aged for eight to twelve years in the cellar and can easily be kept for 25 to 30 years.  - Winemaker's Notes

The Winery

The vineyards of Pomerol gradually developed between the 12th century and the French Revolution under the aegis of the knights of Saint-Jean of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta. Château GAZIN, which was a hamlet in the 18th century, is probably located on the site of the “Hospital of Pomeyrols”,built by the knights to receive pilgrims on the Santiago de Compostela route. This was the inspiration for the name of the property’s second wine “l’Hospitalet de Gazin”.
