Description

Plenty of spicy and toasty oak on offer here with underlying plum aromas and flavors. A very fresh palate with great depth and detail. Drink or hold - JS93

This wine is austere, more structured than fruity. It has dry tannins and stalky fruit flavors, with medium acidity. - WE89~91

The wine is bright and limpid. The robe is deep garnet and luminous. The nose is neat and straight. Before stirring, cherry and cedar. After stirring, come the black pepper aromas, fresh roses, lightly mineral. The attack is frank and supple. The mouth is immediately aromatic in the gray tobacco register, mineral and wooded touch barely vanilled. The fine tannic frame, satin is the heart of a smooth volume The retro-olfaction is very long, with cherry and mint. D Wait for 2020 to savour, potential ageing until 2045 - Winemaker's Notes

The Winery

Château Camensac is a Bordeaux wine estate in the Haut-Médoc region, just over the border from Saint-Julien. The portfolio has two wines, the first label, Château Camensac and the second lesser-quality, La Closerie de Camensac.

The estate has around 172 acres (70ha) of vines with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot planted. Vineyards are largely continguous; the railway line divides the main blocks from the "Lagrange" plots, which are adjacent to Château Lagrange in Saint-Julien. Soils are predominantly gravel (with a zone of sandy gravel) and planted to Cabernet Sauvignon; areas of chalky clay around the borders of the property are where most of the Merlot blocks are situated.

Harvest is undertaken manually and, after sorting, fermentation takes place in concrete and stainless steel tanks. After blending, the grand vin is aged for 17 to 20 months in French oak barriques, of which around 40 percent are new.

Château Camensac has was bought in 2005 by the Merlaut family who also own Chasse-Spleen and Gruaud-Larose. It had previously been owned by the Rioja-based Forner family of Marques de Cacere - Information from Wine Searcher
