Description

The firm tannins in this wine are dense and concentrated, ripe rather than dry. The fruit and juicy acidity give the wine richness and crispness at the same time. It has a great future. Drink from 2025. - WE94

The dark berry and iodine aromas are fascinating with bark and black tea undertones. Medium to full body, juicy fruit and a savory finish. Hints of tobacco and chocolate. A long time favourite. Drink in 2020. - JS93

Medium garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Carbonnieux is very earthy with fallen leaves, mossy bark and damp soil notions with a core of red currants and black raspberries plus a waft of wild thyme. The medium-bodied palate is firm, grainy and fresh with delicate red fruits and an earthy finish. - WA92

Offers cassis, raspberry and cherry paste flavors, showing flashes of mulling spice, sweet tobacco and warm earth. Smooth and approachable. Best from 2019 through 2027. - WS92

The Winery

Founded by the Benedictine monks of Bordeaux’s Holy Cross abbey in the 13th century, Château Carbonnieux is among the oldest estates in the Bordeaux region. In 1956, Marc Perrin acquired and restored this château bathed in history, which definitively earned the title of Cru Classé in 1959. Antony Perrin, his son, continued the aesthetic and technical improvements and gave this wine an international reputation. Today Eric and Philibert, his children, manage the family property.

The vineyard for Château Carbonnieux’s red wine is planted on a fine, naturally-drained gravel outcrop. Situated in the heart of the PessacLéognan appellation, this prestigious terroir is remarkable for its structure and the diversity of its soils.
