Description

The 2016 Beaumont, owned by Suntory and Castel, has a rather conservative bouquet, a little backward and surly compared to its peers with undergrowth aromas coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, quite lithe and agile in the mouth, a wine willing to go out and please and not worry too much about cellaring. Whilst it does not quite have the complexity of the 2015, it is still a mouthful of potentially delicious wine. - WA88~90

The Winery

Château Beaumont is a historic wine estate in the Haut-Médoc region, known for its red wine based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It is one of the largest of all properties in Bordeaux in terms of vineyard size, covering 113 hectares (279 acres) of land.

Viticulture at the Beaumont estate dates back to 1824. In 1849, it passed into the hands of the Bonnin brothers, who constructed the château in the Renaissance mansard style. Since 1986, Beaumont has been owned by the Grands Millésimes de France group, which is now a joint venture between Suntory and Castel Frères.

The estate is located at Cussac between the communes of Margaux and Saint-Julien, on a single plot with deep sandy gravel soils. A little more than half of plantings are Cabernet Sauvignon, with the rest made up of Merlot and a small amount of Petit Verdot. The typical blend of the finished wine is broadly similar.

In the winery, fermentation takes place in large temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The grand vin spends 12-14 months aging in barrel prior to bottling. Château Beaumont has also made two junior cuvées: Château d'Arvigny and Les Tours de Beaumont.   - Information from Wine Searcher
